Before we learn how to pray, we learn Who we are praying to. These six lessons build the six things a Muslim believes in their heart — each one with the ayah or hadith it comes from, so your child learns the proof, not just the idea.
Tawhid · ages 5-7
Who is Allah?
Allah is One. He made everything, He was never made, and there is nothing and nobody like Him. This is the first and biggest thing a Muslim knows.
1One, not many
Allah has no partner, no children, and no parents. We worship Him alone.
2Always there
Allah was there before everything and will be there after everything. He never sleeps and never gets tired.
3Nothing is like Him
We do not draw Allah or imagine a shape for Him. He is not like anything He created.
4He hears you
Allah hears every dua, even the one you whisper inside your heart in your own language.
5Tawhid
Believing Allah is One in who He is, in being worshipped alone, and in His perfect names — that is tawhid.
Faatirus samaawaati wal ard; ja'ala lakum min anfusikum azwaajanw wa minal an'aami azwaajany yazra'ukum feeh; laisa kamislihee shai'unw wa Huwas Samee'ul Baseer
“[He is] Creator of the heavens and the earth. He has made for you from yourselves, mates, and among the cattle, mates; He multiplies you thereby. There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.”

Allah's beautiful names
Allah tells us about Himself through His names. Each name teaches us something we can trust Him with — and a way to call on Him.
1Ar-Rahman, Ar-Rahim
The Most Merciful. His mercy is bigger than any mistake you have made.
2Al-Khaliq
The Creator — every animal, star and snowflake is His design.
3As-Sami', Al-Basir
The All-Hearing and All-Seeing. Nothing you do is unseen, and no dua is unheard.
4Al-Ghafur, At-Tawwab
The Forgiving, the One who accepts turning back. Say sorry and mean it — He forgives.
5How to use them
Call upon Allah by whichever of His beautiful names fits what you are asking Him for.
Wa lillaahil Asmaaa 'ul Husnaa fad'oohu bihaa wa zarul lazeena yulhidoona feee Asmaaa'ih; sa yujzawna maa kaanoo ya'maloon
“And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the company of] those who practice deviation concerning His names. They will be recompensed for what they have been doing.”
Qulid'ul laaha awid'ur Rahmaana ayyam maa tad'oo falahul asmaaa'ul Husnaa; wa laa tajhar bi Salaatika wa laa tukhaafit bihaa wabtaghi baina zaalika sabeela
“Say, "Call upon Allah or call upon the Most Merciful. Whichever [name] you call - to Him belong the best names." And do not recite [too] loudly in your prayer or [too] quietly but seek between that an [intermediate] way.”
Surah Al-Faatiha · 1:1
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem
“In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.”

“The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], "We make no distinction between any of His messengers." And they say, "We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination."”

“Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in which was guidance and light. The prophets who submitted [to Allah] judged by it for the Jews, as did the rabbis and scholars by that with which they were entrusted of the Scripture of Allah, and they were witnesses thereto. So do not fear the people but fear Me, and do not exchange My verses for a small price. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed - then it is those who are the disbelievers.”

“Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him. And we revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, the Descendants, Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon, and to David We gave the book [of Psalms].”

“And We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which came before him in the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel, in which was guidance and light and confirming that which preceded it of the Torah as guidance and instruction for the righteous.”

The prophets and messengers
Allah sent prophets to every people, all with the same first message: worship Allah alone. Muhammad ﷺ is the last of them.
1Same core message
From Adam to Muhammad ﷺ, every prophet called people to worship Allah alone.
2Twenty-five named
Twenty-five prophets are named in the Qur'an — Allah sent many more that we do not know by name.
3Human, not divine
Prophets were human beings chosen by Allah. We follow them; we never worship them.
4The Seal
Muhammad ﷺ is the final messenger. No prophet comes after him.
5We love them all
We say 'peace be upon him' after every prophet's name — including Musa, Isa and Ibrahim.
Maa kaana Muhammmadun abaaa ahadim mir rijaalikum wa laakir Rasoolal laahi wa Khaataman Nabiyyeen; wa kaanal laahu bikulli shai'in 'Aleema
“Muhammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets. And ever is Allah, of all things, Knowing.”
Wa laqad ba'asnaa fee kulli ummatir Rasoolan ani'budul laaha wajtanibut Taaghoota faminhum man hadal laahu wa minhum man haqqat 'alaihid dalaalah; faseeroo fil ardi fanzuroo kaifa kaana 'aaqibatul mukazzibeen
“And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], "Worship Allah and avoid Taghut." And among them were those whom Allah guided, and among them were those upon whom error was [deservedly] decreed. So proceed through the earth and observe how was the end of the deniers.”
Wa nada'ul mawaazeenal qista li Yawmil Qiyaamati falaa tuzlamu nafsun shai'aa; wa in kaana misqaala habbatim min khardalin atainaa bihaa; wa kafaa binaa haasibeen
“And We place the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be treated unjustly at all. And if there is [even] the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. And sufficient are We as accountant.”
“Iman is to believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and to believe in destiny, both its good and its consequences.”

Shirk — the one thing never to do
Tawhid means worshipping Allah alone. Shirk means giving that worship — or part of it — to something else. It is the one mistake Islam warns about most.
1What shirk means
Treating anything as if it had Allah's power: statues, stars, luck charms, or people.
2Luqman's advice
The Qur'an records Luqman telling his son not to associate anything with Allah, calling it a great wrong.
3Ask Allah directly
You never need a middleman. Dua goes straight to Allah, in any language, at any time.
4Allah's right on us
The Prophet ﷺ taught Mu'adh that Allah's right over people is that they worship Him alone.
5Small things count
Wearing a charm 'for luck' or believing an object protects you takes trust away from Allah.
Wa iz qaala luqmaanu libnihee wa huwa ya'izuhoo ya bunaiya laa tushrik billaah; innash shirka lazulmun 'azeem
“And [mention, O Muhammad], when Luqman said to his son while he was instructing him, "O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allah. Indeed, association [with him] is great injustice."”
“Allah's right on His slaves is that they should worship Him alone and should not worship any besides Him.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 2856

Trusting Allah with what happens
Allah already knows and has written what will happen. That is not a reason to give up — it is a reason to stop being afraid of people and to ask Allah first.
1Ask Allah, not people
The Prophet ﷺ told a boy: when you ask, ask Allah; when you seek help, seek Allah's help.
2No one can harm you except by Allah's decree
If everyone gathered to harm you, they could only do what Allah had already written.
3Be mindful of Allah
The same hadith begins: be mindful of Allah and He will protect you.
4Tawakkul is not laziness
You still work, revise, tie the camel — then trust Allah with the result.
5Allah is enough
The Qur'an teaches us to say: Allah is sufficient for us; in Him we put our trust.
Qul lany-yuseebanaaa illaa maa katabal laahu lanaa Huwa mawlaanaa; wa 'alal laahi falyatawak kalimu 'minoon
“Say, "Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector." And upon Allah let the believers rely.”
“O boy, I will teach you a statement: be mindful of Allah and He will protect you. When you ask, ask Allah, and when you seek aid, seek Allah's aid. Know that if the entire creation were to gather to benefit you, you would gain no benefit except what Allah had written for you.”
