Anger is the feeling children act on fastest and regret first. The Sunnah does not tell a child to pretend calm; it gives them a plan. A man asked the Prophet ﷺ for advice and he said "do not become angry" every time he asked. He ﷺ taught that the strong one is the person who controls himself when angry, that seeking refuge from Shaytan removes anger, and that sitting down, lying down or making wudu breaks its heat. These five lessons give a child words to say, a body to move and a reason from Allah to let go. Every point carries its ayah or hadith reference.
Lesson 1 · The advice · ages 8-11
"Do not become angry"
A man asked the Prophet ﷺ for advice again and again, and each time he answered the same way.
1The hadith
A man said to the Prophet ﷺ, "Advise me." He said, "Do not become angry." The man asked again and again, and each time he said, "Do not become angry."
2Repeated on purpose
The Prophet ﷺ repeated the same answer because anger damages more of our deeds than we think.
3Feeling it is not sinning
The blame is on what anger makes us do — hitting, shouting, breaking things, saying what is untrue.
4Allah praises those who hold it
Allah describes the people of Jannah as those who restrain anger and pardon people.
5Ask for help
Anger is one of the things a Muslim asks Allah's protection from before it moves the hands.
Wa laa tastawil hasanatu wa las saiyi'ah; idfa' billatee hiya ahsanu fa'izal lazee bainaka wa bainahoo 'adaawatun ka'annahoo waliyun hameem
“And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better; and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend.”
“A man said to the Prophet, "Advise me!" The Prophet said, "Do not become angry." The man asked (the same) again and again, and the Prophet said in each case, "Do not become angry."”
Sahih al-Bukhari 6116
Do this before next time
Say the Prophet's ﷺ three words out loud, then name the one thing that makes you angriest at home.
Lesson 2 · Strength · ages 8-11
Who is really strong
The Prophet ﷺ said the strong person is not the one who beats others in a fight, but the one who controls himself when angry.
1The hadith
The Prophet ﷺ said the strong is not the one who overcomes people by his strength, but the one who controls himself while in anger.
2Winning the wrong fight
Beating someone in a shouting match is not strength if you lost control of yourself doing it.
3Hilm is a skill
Forbearance grows with practice, exactly like reading or memorising — you get better every time you use it.
4Allah loves this behaviour
Allah tells us to repel evil with what is better, and that turns an enemy into a close friend.
5Nobody sees the win
The moment you swallow an answer nobody claps, but it is recorded with Allah.
“Repel, by [means of] what is best, [their] evil. We are most knowing of what they describe.”
“I know a word, the saying of which will cause him to relax, if he does say it. If he says: 'I seek Refuge with Allah from Satan,' then all his anger will go away.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 3282
“When one of you becomes angry while standing, he should sit down. If the anger leaves him, well and good; otherwise he should lie down.”
Sunan Abi Dawud 4782
“Anger comes from the devil, the devil was created of fire, and fire is extinguished only with water; so when one of you becomes angry, he should perform ablution.”
Sunan Abi Dawud 4784

Practise the three steps calmly today so your body knows them before you need them.
Lesson 4 · Pardon · ages 8-11
Forgiving instead of hitting back
Allah links forgiving people to His forgiveness, and the Prophet ﷺ said forgiving raises a person's honour.
1Allah's link
Allah tells the believers to pardon and overlook, asking would you not like Allah to forgive you.
2The hadith
The Prophet ﷺ said no one forgives another except that Allah increases his honour.
3Forgiving is not weakness
You can forgive someone and still ask an adult for help if the harm continues.
4Better than getting even
Allah says the reward of an injury is a like injury, but whoever pardons and makes peace has his reward with Allah.
5Start small
Forgive the small pushes and jokes first; the big ones get easier after that.
Wa laa yaatali ulul fadli minkum wassa'ati ai yu'tooo ulil qurbaa walmasaakeena walmuhaajireena fee sabeelillaahi walya'foo walyasfahoo; alaa tuhibboona ai yaghfiral laahu lakum; wal laahu Ghafoorur Raheem
“And let not those of virtue among you and wealth swear not to give [aid] to their relatives and the needy and the emigrants for the cause of Allah, and let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”
Wa jazaaa'u saiyi'atin saiyi'tum misluha faman 'afaa wa aslaha fa ajruhoo 'alal laah; innahoo laa yuhibbuz zaalimeen
“And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allah. Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers.”
Qawlum ma'roofunw wa maghfiratun khairum min sadaqatiny yatba'uhaaa azaa; wallaahu Ghaniyyun Haleem
“Kind speech and forgiveness are better than charity followed by injury. And Allah is Free of need and Forbearing.”
“Charity does not decrease wealth, no one forgives another except that Allah increases his honor, and no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah except that Allah raises his status.”
Sahih Muslim 2588
Do this before next time
Forgive one thing this week without telling anyone you forgave it.
Lesson 5 · Words · ages 12-15
Answer later, not now
Angry words cannot be taken back, so the Sunnah is to delay the reply and meet people with a good face instead.
1Delay is a decision
Waiting before you reply is not ignoring someone — it is choosing your words while you can still choose them.
2The hadith
The Prophet ﷺ said do not consider any good thing insignificant, even meeting your brother with a cheerful face.
3A guaranteed house
The Prophet ﷺ guaranteed a house in the surroundings of Paradise for whoever avoids quarrelling even when he is right.
4Being right is not the goal
You can be right and still be wrong in how you said it.
5Repair after
When anger has passed, go back and fix what it broke with a word or an apology.
Wa 'ibaadur Rahmaanil lazeena yamshoona 'alal ardi hawnanw wa izaa khaata bahumul jaahiloona qaaloo salaamaa
“And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace,”
Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanoo laa yaskhar qawmum min qawmin 'asaaa anyyakoonoo khairam minhum wa laa nisaaa'um min nisaaa'in 'Asaaa ay yakunna khairam minhunna wa laa talmizooo bil alqaab; bi'sal ismul fusooqu ba'dal eemaan; wa mal-lam yatub fa-ulaaa'ika humuz zaalimoon
“O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one's] faith. And whoever does not repent - then it is those who are the wrongdoers.”
“Don't consider anything insignificant out of good things even if it is that you meet your brother with a cheerful countenance.”
Sahih Muslim 2626
“I guarantee a house in the surroundings of Paradise for a man who avoids quarrelling even if he were in the right.”
Sunan Abi Dawud 4800
