Children handle money long before they earn it — pocket money, tuck shop, selling things at school, helping in a family business. Islam has clear rules for all of it: the Prophet ﷺ said no food is better than what a person eats from the work of his own hands, that whoever cheats is not from him ﷺ, and that the honest trader stands with the prophets and martyrs. These four lessons build fairness early: label the fault, pay on time, keep your word, never take what is not yours. Every point carries its ayah or hadith reference.
Lesson 1 · Kasb · ages 8-11
The food you earned yourself
The Prophet ﷺ said nobody eats better food than what he has earned with his own hands, and mentioned that Dawud ate from his own work.
1The hadith
The Prophet ﷺ said: nobody eats food better than that which he eats out of the work of his own hand, and the Prophet Dawud used to eat from the earnings of his own hands.
2Prophets worked
Allah made iron soft for Dawud to work with his own hands, and the Prophet ﷺ traded — work is not beneath a believer.
3Begging is a last resort
The Prophet ﷺ warned against asking people for money when you are able to work.
4Children can start small
Helping, tidying, learning a skill and being reliable are the beginning of halal earning.
5Allah blesses effort
Allah says to walk in the earth and seek His provision, then to remember that the return is to Him.

“O you who have believed, spend from the good things which you have earned and from that which We have produced for you from the earth. And do not aim toward the defective therefrom, spending [from that] while you would not take it [yourself] except with closed eyes. And know that Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy.”
Wa laqad aatainaa Daawooda minnaa fadlany yaa jibaalu awwibee ma'ahoo wattaira wa alannaa lahul hadeed
“And We certainly gave David from Us bounty. [We said], "O mountains, repeat [Our] praises with him, and the birds [as well]." And We made pliable for him iron,”
“Nobody eats food better than that which he eats out of the work of his own hand.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 2072

Lesson 2 · Ghish · ages 8-11
Never hide a fault
The Prophet ﷺ found wet grain hidden under dry grain and said: whoever deceives us is not one of us.
1The story
The Prophet ﷺ passed a heap of grain, put his hand in and found it damp underneath. He told the seller to show the wet part on top, then said: whoever deceives is not of me.
2Say the flaw out loud
If you swap or sell something broken, the fault must be named before the deal, not after.
3No fake weighing
Allah warns those who give short measure and demand full measure from others.
4Cheating removes barakah
The Prophet ﷺ said lying and hiding faults wipe out the blessing in a sale.
5It applies at school
Swapping cards, selling snacks, copying homework — the same rule covers all of it.

“O you who have believed, when you contract a debt for a specified term, write it down. And let a scribe write [it] between you in justice. Let no scribe refuse to write as Allah has taught him. So let him write and let the one who has the obligation dictate. And let him fear Allah, his Lord, and not leave anything out of it. But if the one who has the obligation is of limited understanding or weak or unable to dictate himself, then let his guardian dictate in justice. And bring to witness two witnesses from among your men. And if there are not two men [available], then a man and two women from those whom you accept as witnesses - so that if one of the women errs, then the other can remind her. And let not the witnesses refuse when they are called upon. And do not be [too] weary to write it, whether it is small or large, for its [specified] term. That is more just in the sight of Allah and stronger as evidence and more likely to prevent doubt between you, except when it is an immediate transaction which you conduct among yourselves. For [then] there is no blame upon you if you do not write it. And take witnesses when you conclude a contract. Let no scribe be harmed or any witness. For if you do so, indeed, it is [grave] disobedience in you. And fear Allah. And Allah teaches you. And Allah is Knowing of all things.”

Do this before next time
Pay back anything you owe — money or a borrowed item — before the end of this week.
Lesson 4 · Sidq · ages 8-11
The truthful trader's rank
The Prophet ﷺ said the truthful, trustworthy merchant is with the prophets, the truthful ones and the martyrs.
1The hadith
The Prophet ﷺ said: the truthful, trustworthy merchant is with the prophets, the truthful and the martyrs.
2Trust is the currency
Being amin — someone whose word can be relied on — is worth more than any profit.
3Be easy to deal with
The Prophet ﷺ asked Allah's mercy for the person who is easy when he buys, sells and asks for what is owed.
4No false oaths
Swearing by Allah to push a sale through is a serious sin, even if the item is fine.
5Fair to the buyer
Both sides have the right to be pleased with a deal — pressure is not trade.
“O you who have believed, do not consume one another's wealth unjustly but only [in lawful] business by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful.”

“O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts. Lawful for you are the animals of grazing livestock except for that which is recited to you [in this Qur'an] - hunting not being permitted while you are in the state of ihram. Indeed, Allah ordains what He intends.”
“The truthful and trustworthy merchant is with the prophets, the truthful, and the martyrs.”
Jami' at-Tirmidhi 1209
“May Allah have mercy on a man who is lenient when he sells, when he buys and when he demands his money back.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 2076
